The issue: How do I set up my college email to access my
email accounts that I always use like, Yahoo or Comcast? How do I send
email through my college server but receive email in my usual email box?
Solution: You need to understand incoming email servers,
vs. outgoing email servers. Most networks, i.e. your college, Comcast or
Yahoo, will not allow you to send email through their network unless you
are CONNECTED to their network. So, when you are on the college network
you can send email through the college network. When you are on the
college network, you can not send email through the Comcast network. You
always can RECEIVE email from any network, it is the sending that is the
problem. SMTP is what is controlled. Yahoo, for example charges about
$20.00/year to send SMTP email through their servers. This is a deal,
since most SMTP email servers cost about $5.00 to $10.00/month!
So: If you want to use your Comcast, or Yahoo email box
while on the college campus, you need to simply RECEIVE your email from
Yahoo or Comcast and SEND your email through your college. The settings
would be like:
- Incoming Email
- pop.mail.yahoo.com
- Requires username / password
- Outgoing email
- smtp.MyCollege.Edu
- requires username / password
- what the college gave you
Settings for Outlook:
- Tools / Email / Add new account
- Select POP3 account, click Next

- Fill in your email account information:
- Incoming is your Yahoo, Comcast, or personal email box
- Outgoing is your college's settings. Look up help on your college
campus to find the answer.

- NOW the TRICK: Since you are receiving email from one mailbox
and sending email through another email box you need to click MORE
SETTINGS.
- In the more settings dialog box you can provide a different user
name and password for the outgoing SMTP email box. (your
college username and password)
- Click Outgoing Server, and enter your college user name and college
password. See Below...

- Click OK
- Click TEST Account Settings, if all is right, you will
see this....

- Your college email is now receiving your personal email box and it
is sending through your college SMTP server.
- Congratulations.
