Vertical Scrolling Backgrounds

Also learn how to....
Make a seamless background
Make a static background

Backgrounds can be designed to scroll up and down a computer screen presenting a vertical section of color on the screen. This is commonly used when you want a solid color down the left side under the custom buttons. You also can use this technique if you want to fill an unused area of a screen with color like this.

Steps to follow

  1. Create a long thin graphic that is longer than computer monitor resolution. 10 pixels high X 2000 pixels long will cover this. Computer monitor resolution can be up to 1280 x 1024, so 2000 pixels is greater.
  2. Paint a section of color 150 to 200 pixels in from the left edge.
  3. Add a drop shadow to the color if desired.
  4. Here is a screen capture of what it would look like.
  5. Save the background as a GIF or a JPEG.
  6. Add the background to the theme and save the theme.
  7. Apply the theme.
  8. This page demonstrates a vertical scrolling background image.
