Meet the Author
Hayden began sailing in his college days during the summer of 1978 when
he borrowed a friend's 12' Snark and launched her on the Susquehanna River.
Little did he know that this one activity would lead to a lifetime of
sailing, yacht racing and ocean sailing.
Following a very successful small boat racing career in an 18 foot
Chrysler Buccaneer where he reached a national ranking of second, Hayden
joined a J-35 race team in New York. For the next 8 years, he raced on
this team out of Mamaroneck, NY, racing the Long Island Sound
scene. Positions held were jib trimmer and mainsail trimmer. Overnight ocean
races out to Martha's Vineyard and Block Island were a yearly event as well
as "round the buoy races" on the Sound.
Overlapping with the J-35 racing career, Hayden began to cruise the
Chesapeake Bay on his Island Packet 27. Cruising and racing eventually lead
to ocean sailing aboard his new Island Packet 35. Since 2001, Hayden has
been extending his ocean sailing with trips into New England and south
through the Chesapeake Bay.
This web site is an overview of taking the trip from the Bay to New
England. I challenge you to experience ocean sailing and go beyond 100 miles
off shore. Enjoy! |
