The Run to Block

Departing Cape May, NJ and heading on a direct course of 040 magnetic, Block Island is 240 miles away! Block Island is located just south of Newport Rhode Island and just east of Montauk NY.

Block is a common destination for yachts heading north into New England. The island has a wonderful "pond" called Great Salt Pond where hundreds of boats can find anchorage. Mooring balls are also available for rent as well as docks at Paine's Marina or Champlin's Marina.

The town runs a water taxi and provides a pump out boat as well. Block Island's Great Salt Pond is surrounded with white sand beaches and there is easy access to the ocean side beaches as well.

Once you arrive at Block Island, the entire New England sailing area is short day sail. Sailing Block Island Sound and Buzzard's Bay provides endless places to explore.
